I dream of painting and then I paint my dream

"The beautiful is in nature, and it is encountered under the most diverse forms of reality. Once it is found it belongs to art, or rather to the artist who discovers it"

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see"

"Painting is a blind man's profession. He paints not what he sees, but what he feels, what he tells himself about what he has seen"

"Poetry fettered, fetters the human race. Nations are destroyed or flourish in proportion as their poetry, painting, and music are destroyed or flourish"

"Painting is a faith, and it imposes the duty to disregard public opinion."

"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way--things I had no words for"
    Georgia O'Keeffe

"If you want to have clean ideas, change them as often as you change your shirts"

    Francis Picabia

"It is a widely accepted notion among painters that it does not matter what one paints as long as it is well painted. This is the essence of academic ism. There is no such thing as good painting about nothing"

    Mark Rothko

"For me, painting is a way to forget life. It is a cry in the night, a strangled laugh"

    Georges Rouault

"Being born is like being kidnapped. And then sold into slavery"

    Andy Warhol

"An artist is not paid for his labor but for his vision"

    James McNeill Whistler

"Who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle"

    Lewis Carroll

"All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother"

"Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm"

"A man who won't die for something is not fit to live"

"I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character"

"An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind"

"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.”

“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.”

"Nature is not only all that is visible to the eye.. it also includes the inner pictures of the soul"

"The world today doesn't make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?”

“Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things”

“Who sees the human face correctly: the photographer, the mirror, or the painter?”

“Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen”

“A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.

"All my pictures are built around the idea of getting in trouble and so giving me the chance to be desperately serious in my attempt to appear as a normal little gentleman"

"I don't believe that the public knows what it wants; this is the conclusion that I have drawn from my career"
